Not For Sale: Triangle Celius Esw (Beech Veneer)

IMHO the most dynamic and musical speaker I've heard at this price point (and I've heard quite a few). 92dB sensitivity. Bass to 40Hz (-3dB). Superb from top to bottom. They can fill a large room but I've got them singing sweetly in just 13 feet. They don't favour any particular musical style. They're good with everything.

This pair are only 16 months old so just nicely run in. They are in virtually mint condition.

Demo welcome. Come and have a listen.

Unlike the lesser models in the Esprit range, these have real wood veneer.

Boxes. Grilles. Manual. Jumpers.

Not for sale - sorry

(RRP: £1400)

Come to Somerset and have a listen to these fabulously musical speakers.

I'm only selling them because I've been entranced by the much more expensive Zu Druids. Otherwise these would be staying right here.

:)

Well it doesn't look like I'm gonna get my Druids any time soon :(

But my newly upgraded Celii are sounding absolutely fabulous :slayer:

So I'm keeping them for now :)

Hi Dev! It all started when Earl of Sodbury on Wigwam modified his Triangle Naia's and gave a glowing report of the effects so I thought, for the minimal cost involved, I'd give it a go.

I rewired the crossover input leads to one set of terminal posts only (i.e. converted the speaker from bi-wireable to single-wire-only) thus eliminating the need for jumpers.

I bypassed the sound-killing thermal cut-out devices in the crossovers as they are never ever going to be tripped in a domestic setting (hell if my old ATC couldn't trip them then the Croft certainly won't).

I replaced the white ceramic 'coffin' resistors (3 in each speaker) with Mills non-inductive wirewound jobbies. This yielded a vaste improvement in transparency, soundstage, imaging, clarity, everything really.

I removed the crimped spade plugs used to attach the leads to each driver and soldered the leads directly to the drivers - in fact to the ends of the fly leads so the signal doesn't pass through the spade terminals at all.

I added a 50 ohm damping resistor directly across the tweeter terminals. This damps the primary out-of-band resonance of the tweeter (which in this case was responsible for a fatiguing peaky metallic edge to some vocals and electric guitars).

Result: my Celii have been transformed to a performance worthy of the next price class up - all for 40 quids worth of resistors.

At some point I will tackle the capacitors too but I will need to rebuild the crossover on a bigger board to do this properly. I may externalise it too.
