NTL Broadband Upgrade Dates

# Wednesday, July 14, 2004
You heard it here first! Information from a trusted internal NTL source has given the following dates for the NTL Broadband Upgrades.

SACM (Stand Alone Cable Modem)

150/600/1 Meg Start 1st August

STB (Set Top Box)

150/600 Start 1st August
1 Meg Start 1st September

The Bromley platform is ready to handle the upgrades, however there are some Langley areas that require some work, this being the case, the dates may slip slightly, whilst the network is brought up to speed.

A summary of the current and what the new upgraded speeds will be, are as follows:-

* ntl 150Kbps increases to 300Kbps
* ntl 600Kbps increases to 750Kbps
* ntl 1Mbps increases to 1.5Mbps

I thought they'd already implimented this.... Telewest did the same, (50% free increase), for all their BB services about a month ago.

As much as I hate NTL customer service things seem to have improved, I stuck a complaint via email about my email service, and what do you know a day later I got a written letter in the post!

I am on the 600 service, and its very fast so I am very happy to take even more!

Anyone know any reliable connection speed tests?

I'm on 150k and haven't noticed any increases.

Also, anyone else got this broadband medic which has replaced correct connect?

Hasn't worked since the day I got it.

Cheers

MO :)

Cheers

Downstream 139 Kbps (17.4 KB/sec) 150 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 59 Kbps (7.4 KB/sec) 63 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Still no free upgrade here then :(

i'm on a 1mbps ntl cable modem and just got...
Downstream 1459 Kbps (182.4 KB/sec) 1575 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 254 Kbps (31.8 KB/sec) 274 Kbps (inc. overheads)

so it looks like i've got a 1.5mbps connection sa-weet.
cheers

Mo ,
I,m on 150k with Tiscali .
Just measured mine

Downstream 152 (inc overheads)

Upstream 265 (inc overheads)

my upstream looks pretty impressive , just a shame I don,t know what it means

Kermit, if I'm interpreting your numbers correctly it means that you can upload at 265 Kbps. However that seems odd as normally your Downstream rate will be considerably greater than your Upstream rate i.e in my case 512 KBps Down and 256 Kbps Up for a 512K connection.

BL21DE3 ,

I ran the test again , cos it didn,t sound right to me .
There,s a fair discrepancy between my figures and Mo,s .

These are the complete figures ,

Downstream 133Kpbs (16.6KB/sec) 143 Kpbs (inc overheads)
Upstream 246Kpbs (30.8KB/sec) 265 Kpbs (inc overheads)

So , there we are .
I still don,t know what the Upstream is in real terms(ie what it affects)
But it,s better than yours :D :rolleyes:

While that maybe true (but only marginally), your downstream isn't :D :rolleyes: and that's what governs how fast you get data from the web. The upstream refers to how quickly you can serve data to the network i.e other users on a P2P network or an FTP server etc.

I got 698 down stream, happy with that for a 600 service

BT Yahoo Broadband for me my figures were:

Downstream 453 Kbps (56.6 KB/sec) 489 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 242 Kbps (30.3 KB/sec) 261 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Looks like mine is a bit slow as it supposed to be 512 kbps(it says 576kbps if i hover over the 'two tellies' )

It still feels like riding lightning compared to my previous 56K modem and my 'Home Highway' ISDN. Investing in Broadband and switching over to Windows XP ( coupled with building my own 'reasonably spec'd computer) have been the best computer moves i've ever done. A very happy bear :)
