Okay Dev - we can chat old cars in here.

I like the old Jenson or Healey as nice curvy classics. The frog-eye is so cute. I also like the Karmen Ghia. Oh, and of course the Porsche roadster - but my funds would be replica only.

My kind of thread :D. Many Thanks Samantha.

My all time favourite cars (no, I cannot narrow it down to one!) are (apologies in advance:)) a Ferrari 250GTO, Daytona, Dino (OK, it's not a Ferrari but at least a relative:)) and Porsche 911 in various guises. Others I love are Jensen Interceptor (for that lazy V8 burble) and looks (at the time it was outta this world), Triumph TR6, Austin Healey, Fiat X1/9, AMV8 and (there is a looooooooooooooooong list).

Now, which one would you klike to talk about first? :D.

I love the look of the 60's 911's, just gorgeous. I'd love one, but will never have one unless I win the lottery.

I had a 1964 Mk1 Triumph 2000 that lovely to drive around in; leather seats and wooden trim, nice burgundy colour with a cream roof. Not exactly a speed machine though, although its straight six engine was nice and smooth.

Just remembered a guilty secret; I've always been fond of the look of those Reliant Scimitars, and was actually seriously thinking of buying one a few years ago :o

Nice idea for a thread Samantha

Good taste, I love the Interceptor and the Porsche 928* ( *although my garage won't touch them.) If I had more money I'd have a 928 like a shot.

I have a Silver Rose Edition Porsche 944 Turbo SE, and you'd have to prize the keys from my cold dead hand, and of course the clearaudio turntable from the other! I bought it at an incredible price and traded in my 2002 Bora - its mainly timewarp in condition as its only spent two winters in the UK.

Its a strange warm silver colour and has some blinging red tartan upholstery! So 80's its cool! I walk and get the train to work all week just to drive her at the weekends! I don't like putting any more miles on it or commuting in it, due to 1. the enormous queues and start stop driving EVERYWHERE in the UK, and 2. my pet hate - the urge to dump a ton of rocksalt every five yards in the winter, when a lot of other countries don't bother.

Well. . . . I am retiring my 1991 Jaguar XJ6 4 litre - Taxed and MOT to December - silver blue owned by myself and serviced every year for the past 14 years - drives superbly. £350 - yes that's right £350 if you want the tax transferred then extra pro rata. However will need some work to pass MOT in December. May swap for interesting Hi Fi! Cambridge area.

Ah, the days when cars had character, style. If money was no object I'd have a Daimler SP250 Dart. However, if all goes to plan, I'll shortly be getting my hands on one of these

Triumph GT6, utterly great looking motor.

What are we classing as old ? 80s 90s ???

Lotus Carlton and Aston Martin Vantage (mid nighties) got to be up there with the best !!

My grandfather had a Jensen FF because my grandmother wouldn't let him have an E-Type.

My father had an S-type (first time around!), and then an XJ12 5.3 Series II, in brown with the vinyl roof.

So, that's a few family classics....

I rather like Aston Martins personally. DB4 was a lovely car, DB6 volante was very nice indeed, and of course the original V8 Vantage was brutal.

Lotus 7, the classic that lives on.

I think the 928 and 944 have become much more appreciated with age. Helps that they look a little technical and Japanese ;-)
My favourite car is the Lancia Stratos. Designers are still trying to copy the look.
I'm surprised Dev didn't mention one of the most elegant cars of the last 40 years, and the best looking BMW ever, the 3.0 CSL Coupe

Wunderbar.

I'd like to bomb around in an old Lotus 7 like 'the prisoner'

I like the rounded bonet of a classic porsche

A Lancia Stratos, when in team colours raises a smile

I didn't want to mention any BMWs cos I thought I'd get the usual abuse (yes, I drive one:D). The CSL, particularly the "Batmobile" (the homologation special) was a fantasy car when I was at Uni. I'd love to see the Batmobiles negotiate the modern speed humps:eek:.

To be honest there are so many great cars to fantasise about it's impossible for me to pick a favourite. I think my top 10 would include the Lancia Stratos, the Ferrari 250GTO, Daytona and Dino, BMW 2002Tii, CSL, FIAT X1/9, ALFA Romeo Montreal, Maserati Birdcage, Mercedes SL300 Gullwing. OK, my top 100 will include...:D.

I'll add some pictures to this post later.

An e type, preferably one that's recently been pimped up by eagle motors. And a sierra cosworth, with black out windows and an antisocial exhaust system :-)

Hi,

I used to have one of these.

A Rover P6.

It was in that colour as well!

It was great to drive. It had style. It had a 'clapometer' style speedometer. It had a cigar lighter. It had part leather seats. Mine the 2000 SC version. It was a 70s M reg.

I wish I had it still!

I had one of these for a few months when i was 18,wasn't in as good condition though as it had a "slight" oil leak.Ended up flogging it back to my mate for the same as I paid him for it

Some good taste Badchamp - the GT6 is stunning.

Although one of the most stunning cars IMO that I have seen that I can never recall the name of was an older Maserati - can't recall model but the prettiest curvy little coupe, I saw one at Goodwood and just fell in love.

I do think even the modern Maseratis are achingly pretty, but classics are better proportioned.

In fact I recall having a conversation with a Ferrari owner (he was offering me a drive of his car as I was considering buying one of the same model) and we both agreed that modern Ferraris are designed by wind tunnels and computers - old ones were designed by artists!

Cool car SMEgal. I 'almost' bought a '91 S2 944 Turbo some years back, but the Silver Rose isn't often seen.

Someone who lives not far from me has a '70s 911 Turbo, in white with of course the checker interior - very cool.
