Rewster waved his magic wand over my Kimber ICs,and they came back nice and shiney after DCTing,so what did i do? start using them at the same time i plugged in a new Cleanline:rolleyes:

not a problem if they made no difference, but they have, its like listening to new cds, everything has opened up,i can sounds i never heard before,eg on the Damien Rice CD a couple of tracks either have real noises from a cafe in the background,or they are dubbed, whatever, and i noticed it but didnt really,if you know what i mean, but now this background chatting has moved forward in the soundstage,at least i think thats the right term, and these 2 tracks are now completely different, totally different in sound, feel and depth. And on Tom McRaes eponymous cd,he just sounds louder, for want of a better description, its as if he has moved 6 inches nearer the mic.

Base is deeper, bigger, and just better,or seems it,and notes just seem to hang in the air longer, basically, its a big change, and for the better, overall, for all cds,but some more than others.

Havent a clue what did it though. My house has crappy mains thanks to the previous owner putting 6 40w wall lights on a 150w dimmer, plus installing his own double sockets everywhere, needless to say things dim and crackle and bulbs blow far too regularly

I am sure Rewsters DCTing has really opened up the music, but i feel a bit guilty i can't give him a big thumbs up:( sorry Neil:rolleyes:

nope,it took me 3 minutes to insert into to my home made rack, made of 2 Ikea coffee tables,so i dont have the time to conduct tests, only post aimlessly while my wife watches Will and Grace (house move forced sale of other rack, wife choosing next rack)

christ, i can see the thumb dint in your forehead from here ;) why is it that guys never stick up for themselves where their hobby is concerned? i bet you've either got or have plans for large wardrobes for her collection of shoes and outfits she never wears anymore. perhaps she should try to get by with one of those wardrobes from argos that isn't big enough to take a coat hanger just to even things out....
cheers

the next rack needs to look lke furniture,so i need a hifi rack shaped like a sofa, any ideas?

Hey Saab! Apologies for the bizarre cro-magnon man that met you at the door on Friday, I'm feeling a lot better now...

Thought I'd mention that the effects you list below match up well with my experience of that unit, but seem to be exagerated. Now this may just be your use of language, or point towards an increase from both the Cleanline and the cable's DCTing.

Yup. I came to a good compromise with my gf. She moved out and I do what I please...

Ours is give and take - she gives the orders and I take them. Still, it's great training for the daughters - their poor husbands aren't going to know what hit them...

Er ... but surely your current home made rack DOES look like furniture ... its made out of coffee tables ;)

BTW. It ain't always so y'know. Auntie Ants and I had a conversation about HiFi racks and a replacement for the ugly but actually rather effective piece of adapted castaway furniture we currently have. She said "We can't just get any old piece of furniture that looks right - you told me that a proper hifi rack is a specialist bit of kit - no point in having a nice stereo if you aren't getting the best out of it - so long as whatever we get looks less ugly than what we have, I don't mind"

I love her :MILD:

Wimps, the lot of you.

Mana looks exactly like a very uncomfortable sofa.

now that is funny

I must say my concocted rack made of 2 Ikea coffee tables, one with the legs on sideways, and used with Foculpods,is a a truly excellent rack when you are faced with an imminemt house move,in fact i will miss the sonic delights of this rack when replaced with a QS Ref

Dave they may not look like a sofa but a bit different from the norm, I have the Schroers alphastatic with edge lit shelves, and it was the missus that had the last say (well I got to choose the hifi so it was only fair.) I wanted the bigga av rack with 20mm glass shelves but didn't have the room.

will check it out, cheers Paul, few nice ones there, the Focus and the Charisma 1-3 in particular

she has seen a QS in oak in an Audio T window, and likes it,so i am working from that starting point.I think it needs to be nearer an AV rack because she wants the rack to sit lower than the bay window

by the way,i am convinced the Ikea coffee table is a poor mans Russ Andrews Torlyte, and its £186 cheaper per shelf:)

Dave the schroers racks are difficult to get a hold of here mine took over 6 weeks. (pm me if you need any help)not sure about the soundations stuff, but some of the dedicated hifi racks can be seen on soundations.co.uk and think they are imported by the same people who do Anthony gallow. BTW the schroers racks are available in stainless stell also, check out the bigga s/steel version with 20 mm glass, short one may fit in your bay.

Many a true word! QS ref is, er....ahem! a fine rack indeedy, if you are used to the Lack.

I'd agree with Saab,

Under certain components and if you like a certain warmth to the sound, the Ikea Lack offers surprisingly good performance for minimum outlay.

QS great looking rack but a bit wobbly for me I feel, James, did the lp12 fans not suggest a lack coffee table, but with the middle cut out(ala qs ref)?

Paul

Ps James check out the Schroers link, about as far removed from mana(looks wise) as steel and glass will allow. :D
