Dear folks: I bought a Yamaha receiver RX-V685 with a pair of Niles OS 7.3 outdoor speakers. The speakers burnt out (may be they have less output power than the receiver???), and the seller is suggesting I "upgrade" to a pair of paradigm stylus 470 (with additional money). Does anybody know what should be the speakers requirements for the Yamaha receiver?

I found in the net that the Niles OS 7.3 has a

The paradigm specs requires:

SUITABLE AMPLIFIER POWER RANGE
15 - 110 watts
MAXIMUM INPUT POWER

The Yamaha receiver has these specs:

What specs should I request for outdoors speakers´ that should be able to handle the receiver output power?

Power ratings on loudspeakers are pretty much meaningless, as there's no standard. Is it the power at which they start distorting, is it the power at which they start smoking, and anyway, is it continuous and at what frequency and what dynamic range of music? All will have a bearing on how the loudspeakers will stand up to power. Of course one's never told any of this.
Your Niles 'speakers seem a pretty good match for the receiver, so if they burnt out, then it's probably that they were overdriven on loud low dynamic range music, so you either need to play quieter or get some more PA orientated loudspeakers that'll take the high levels better. Whether any of these are suitable for outdoor installation, I doubt. Most outdoor loudspeakers are intended for background music, and loudspeakers for power aren't normally intended for permanent outdoor installation.

I'd try going go a dealer specialising in PA and see if they can recommend anything suitable.

Public Address. It refers to loudspeakers used in larger spaces rather than domestic rooms. They can be anything from 'normal' sized for use in small halls, up to enormous, used for rock concerts in stadiums. The common factor is that they are more sensitive and more rugged, so they can both go loud with small amplifiers, and go VERY LOUD with big amplifiers without damage. In your case, with about 100 watts available, you shouldn't have problems with a small PA 'speaker as long as it is suitable for outside use.
