I think that this is a pretty good double album. Shame about the copy protection though.

I was a bit sceptical about this album as that song they released a few years ago "im sorry miss jackson" was probably one of the most annoying and overplayed songs ever IMHO.

The first CD is Speakerboxx which is reputedly designed for the Car. It's certainly got some really heavy basslines! There's some good fun tunes to listen to in the car.

The second CD is The love below, which has a theme of a running relationship. There is actually some kind of jazz fusion going on here. correct me if im wrong;)

a bit of a poor description really, but give it a go!

anyone else listened to this?

Thanks voodoo, I should have remembered to search before i posted:JPS:

I would agree though, this album has blown me away. I love the lyrics sometimes too, often in a very childish way.

I know you think your shit don't stink, but tell me girl if roses really smell like poo poo poo

makes quite a funny chorus!:D

I've got it.................. but i've got to wait for xmas to play it!!!

I've ordered a copy for my girlfriend though, so i'll listen to that when it arrives :D

Just say you order a cd for someone. And it arrives, but it's shrinkwraped, would it be wrong of you to open it and have a listen?

Outkast do it again!!!

Yep they've pulled it off again!

Double album that's on the funky side of funk!

I think vOOdOO got it pretty much spot on with this description from elsewhere.....

mO, gave this a thorough spin last night.
I started off with "The love below" disc as the current single, "Hey yeah", is (for me) a fantastically produced piece of pop. The rest of the disc is equally outstanding. I was expecting "Speakerboxx" to be less enjoyable and more hip-hop orientated but it blew me away as well.

Listening to this double CD set is like enjoying a retrospective of every relevant/important R&B/Funk/Rap/Hip-Hop release of the past 30 years.
There's a bit of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Cameo, Prince, Busta Ryhmes, Public Enemy, George Clinton, Miles Davis :music: .........and the list goes on.

It's always great to find an album that just knocks you off your feet and this does it in spades. I was listening to "Songs in the key of life." the other night and "Speakerboxx/The love below" is honestly in the same league. another relevant reference would be "The Rainbow Children" by Prince.

It's important to remember, as mO said; Outkast are not just for hip-hop fans.

Stunning :MILD: .

(just a pure b:bub:stard that it's copy protected so i can't stick it on my iPod :banghead:.

from the thread linked to previously.

I've liked all their albums I'd heard previously and this one was no disapointment. I'm not sure why but I always thought Andre 3000 was the bringer of all things funk/soul/jazz, while Big Boi provided the MOre straight hip hop side. And starting with Speakerboxx (Big Bois disc), I expected this to be the less *interesting*. But all the way through it's spot on and wont disappoint anyone who's liked their previous stuff IMO. Nice and varied yet still recognisable as Outkast.

On to The Love Below and things straight away take a different sound. a bit of bluesy jazz loungy style thing going on  sMOoooooooooth. This disc's a bit MOre loved up on the whole. Some clever and very fun lines throughout.

Great stuff! Every album's well worth a listen and this keeps up te quality. Big doses of George Clinton as vOOdOO says. This would fit in nicely with a bit of Parliment or Funkadelic!

Cheers!

Just picked it up on the long delayed vinyl pressing, if you are going to Bristol, treat yourself, it's well worth it, especially if you are an aging Prince fan.

Bought that in Brighton about 2 years ago - it's great but prospective buyers beware : it's 50% instrumental but worth the admission fee for Strawberry Letter 23  .

Bought this today, been meaning to for a while because I like the cut of their jib. Splendid, in every respect. The sort of thing a gentleman can shake his booty to with no qualms at all.

Great stuff! Still gets plenty of play here.

And the other Outkast albums haven't left my portable MD for a while now!

Listened to this for the first time last week, and on the whole it's great. There are some superb tracks on both disks.

It they got rid of the pathetic, pretentious, talky drivel on such tracks as 'where are my panties?', ' Good Day Good Sir', 'Bamboo', 'A life in the Day of...' it would be all the better.

Overall though at least an Hour (over the two disks) of brilliant stuff.

Is no one going to comment how annoying the sticker is on the CD case? Don't see why they couldn't have at least had the tray open up the other way!
