How can I stop my mums Sony CD530 transport sound noisy when closing? Does it need oiling?
Open it up, inspect and understand the opening and closing mechanisms, clean out all the dust and muck. Then use thin grease (silicon grease if you have some) to lubricate the rack and pulley bearings, taking care to keep the grease off the pulleys and belts. Alternatively, since most of the items are self-lubricating, spray clean everything with a can of Servisol Super 10 with extension nozzle in place. If the mechanism is not easily accessible with the lid off, you may need to remove some cables and take the transport of the case. This will ensure a thoroughly good job. All this should be within the grasp of someone who has successfully built a three legged Flexi. Better still, swap your CDP with you mum's CDP.
Get hold of the FAQ is my advice: IIRC it's sci.electrionics.repair FAQ. Fixed a Micromega from this once.
