Recieved this today. Is definitely a scam asked me for my ATM number.
Just checking I shut down the screen after realising, but I had entered some info, is it possible that it could have been saved by the web page even though I shut it down as soon as I noticed?

The dodgy email

Dear valued PayPal® member:

buyers and sellers. To protect the security of your account, PayPal employs
some of the most advanced security systems in the world and our anti-fraud
teams regularly screen the PayPal system for unusual activity.

Recently, our Account Review Team identified some unusual activity in your
account. In accordance with PayPal's User Agreement and to ensure that your
account has not been compromised, access to your account was limited. Your
account access will remain limited until this issue has been resolved. This
is a fraud prevention measure meant to ensure that your account is not
compromised.

In order to secure your account and quickly restore full access, we may
require some specific information from you for the following reason:

We would like to ensure that your account was not accessed by an
unauthorized third party. Because protecting the security of your account
is our primary concern, we have limited access to sensitive PayPal account
features. We understand that this may be an inconvenience but please
understand that this temporary limitation is for your protection.

Case ID Number: PP-040-187-541

We encourage you to log in and restore full access as soon as possible.
Should access to your account remain limited for an extended period of
time, it may result in further limitations on the use of your account.

However, failure to restore your records will result in account suspension.
Please update your records on or before July 15, 2004.

Once you have updated your account records, your PayPal session will not be
interrupted and will continue as normal.

If you didn't click "submit" or whatever then nothing will have gone anywhere. Is the e-mail you pasted (with the links) exactly as you received it? I'm asking because the URLs start https://www.paypal.com/ (note the https) which is one of the key things to look for in a genuine PayPal URL.

I just tried clicking on the URL and got the genuine PayPal login page

Michael.

It was definitely not right because it didn't have my name on it. Everything else was so convincing, even down to having those funny little numbers at the bottom so you can't sign up with an automated system.
Thanks Michael that's exactly what I thought

I get loads of these spoof attempts to get my eBay and PayPal passwords. They are usually very easy to spot (i.e. the links don't go where they claim), but it is best never to follow the links at all. Just ignore the mail completely and log into your eBay or PayPal account as usual, if anything needs doing to your account you will be notified there.

I always send the spoof emails to the PayPal & eBay spoof mail reporting line, the addresses are [email protected] and [email protected] ââ'¬â€œ they take this kind of thing pretty seriously and do act if they find a new one.

Tony.
