Let me start by saying when I was around 20, my friend had an album released. A local record store exec acted as the band's producer. We all went over his place to listen to the album pre-release. In a large beautiful living room, two Klipshorns sat in the corners...I never got over them.

Despite wearing hearing aids (sheesh ) I have constantly upgraded my gear.

Audio Technica AT-LP8X with an Ortonfon 2M Blue
Elekit TU-8550 Preamp
Elekit TU-8600 Amp
and....Klipsch La Scalas vintage 1979.

All have standard components, no cap upgrades (although the La Scalas have had them replaced)

So, I figure I am near the end of this journey given my age, my hearing and my budget.

I appreciate what I have, and when my hearing aids are in Listening to Music mode, things sound great. (Except the Cream albums I have from the 60s that are so compressed, I have considered making them ash trays...)

For CDs I use a JVC XL-V151 which is from the 80s. I think it sounds quite good. (The Cream albums sound a bit better)

Just a perspective from an old fart who loves tubes...
