Possibly - I didn't investigate that. I know how to get into the Tosh service menus but they're not overly user-friendly and I didn't want to mess with anything that could really cock things up. Anyway, I'm using SCART now so it's not an issue any more :)

I knew that Loewe TVs did something non-standard with their SCART cables - still, it wouldn't be as good as proper component with 3 separate cables

Still is better to have the option and the convenience... :MILD:

I go out for the day and come home to find all these people in my front room !

Many thanks for the posts [and kind words from Hexspurt] I'll have to investigate further and see which give me the best pic and sound.

OK, really LMAO now :D

I had considered mentioning the Arcam dv88 and dv27 models give component out via SCART as the exception that proved the rule but considered it a little pedantic in what was essentially an attempt to rectify some basic misconceptions about the SCART. I should have known better though, shouldn't I ;)

Anyway, I did say Component wasn't a ratified standard for SCART, not that a SCART couldn't carry Component. There's an important difference.

The auto-switching is a feature of SCART, nothing to do with lousy or good TV :) I think pin 19 on the SCART cable tells the input device to switch to it. I don't think there are any TVs that auto-switch into a non-SCART input.

My elderly Philips 6322 widescreen TV auto-switches to widescreen via it's s-video SCART.

The DVD player's s-video output goes to the TV's SCART via an s-video-SCART cable so I can't see that the TV gets anything through pin 19 but somehow (don't know how) it spots an anamorphic widescreen signal and over it switches.

Matt.
