First off, what i'm using is a Philips LX8000SA (second highest in the range, top has DVD-R).

Problem: When using this with my portable :)rolleyes: ) TV, i was getting interference from other channels (im using scart btw). Bought a new TV today (Goodmans widescreen - not great i know, but on offer at work, and 4/5 in what hifi, so what the hell), but the problem is still there. I'm not sure if its the crappy £4 scart cable im using, or something else. I was going to get an Ixos scart (the flat cabled one that retails for £40- dont know the prod. number) to see if that would improve it, or is it something else? I cant remember if my old DVD player had this problem, but seeing as the philips retailed for about £600 (not the price i paid, but i haven't finished paying it off yet!) i'd rather find a way of making this better.

    Any advice?

Very odd. Since you're using a SCART cable which goes "direct" to the screen (rather than any UHF decoding etc) it's extraordinary to be getting interferance from broadcast channels. What happens if you unplug the aerial from the TV?

A bit of personal experience from a 'semi doubting thomas cable sceptic' :D
Ditch the freebie scart and buy a decent one. You don't have to buy an expensive one , just something that looks like the manufacturers have made some effort with. The freebie scart leads are one area where i have no problems regarding ' recommending a 'sensibly' priced upgrade cable. I've just had too many bad ones to disagree. I have two IXOS scart leads ( Gold 131AV and a shorter version of the same model) and think they are great. I use a 5m one to link my DVD to my TV (Panasonic 32" WS/ Pro-Logic) and a .75m to link my VCR to the TV.
The reason i bought the IXOS fancy scarts where
#1 The freebie lead was introducing interference on my TV , just as you've described
#2 it looked the business and seemed to be good quality workmanship and materials used.

I don't even think you really need to go to a specialist Hi-Fi shop to buy a decent one any of the High street chains probably sell something suitable, basically anything better than the freebies is going to be better.
The IXOS scart cured the problem instantly.

I agree that the problem would seem to be within your scart lead and is probably down to poorly screened leads within it.

A better scart lead should cure the problem and either online or Currys/Comet should find a reasonable selection of fairly cheap fully screened leads that should be suitable.

Make sure that you are connecting the DVD player to one of the scart sockets that accept an RGB signal too as the picture will be noticeably better than with the composite signal.

any thoughts on why this didnt happen on my old dvd player (or not as noticeable anyway)? It was a crappy £50 player, but i would have thought that would mean a worse picture???

Oh, and how do i tell which is the RGB scart?

I've got one of those flat IXOS jobbies for sale (3m) look in the classifieds if you want it. Only selling because I needed a 5m one.
Great cable, really makes a difference. Can't guarentee it will fix your problem of interferance. Does sound very strange. Only thing I can think of is if your cheap scarts cable conection to one of the scart plugs is maybe lose or come undone. I have found this to happen on the cheaper ones. But as you say it didn't happen on your old DVD?. Give the plug a waggle see if the interference gets better or worse. try another cheap scart just to verify its not that particular scart.

But whatever you do i would get a better scart cable in the end, you really will notice the difference!
