do need it to be less than £100... in fact half that would be good!

Why not try a DIY or mod. At my local electrical store there is a device for switching between phono inputs and an output at £12.99 add an Alps Pot around £15 a bit of silver wire some soldering and whoody doo you have a passive pre amp and some change for at least one 180g vinyl spinner

I'm putting in an order with RS now, £30 and I'll build you a alps pot in a box to go with the amp. Its about as good as you will get for under £50 I expect.
