I was playing some tracks yesterday and I noticed that one of the channels of my 99 stereo Pwr Amp has a major imbalance issue.

I swapped the speaker cable round, interconnects from pre to power amp etc, etc. Once swapped both B&W 685's fired correctly so I now its not the speakers or the cable. I have not tested the 99 on any other kit, but I dont feel I have to, I know its the left channel which has the issue. There firing of the driver is no way consistant as the right channel.

Anyone else had this issue with the 99 ? I used to work at IAG but no longer know anybody there and trust me I know Quads service costs are crazy.

Any pointers or points of contact would be appreciated.

Cheers

IIRC the 99 is a pre amp.

Are you sure the problem isn't with the pre?
If it has balance or input trim controls it would be worth checking those first.

IIRC the 99 is a pre amp.

They do a 99 pre, a 99 stereo power (2 x 90w), and a 99 mono power (1 x 150). These all match each other in physical size.

Then there is the 909 stereo power (2 x 140) which is the beefy looking one.

I've just ordered a 99 pre + a 909 to replace the Audiolab gear I sent back. I was banking on a bit of reliability from Quad. Now I'm concerned :(

I may have to get hold of another pre to test it. The Pre is an MF
X-PRE v3. I 'll swap some cables round etc and let you all know how I get on. Many thanks for the response.
