Perhaps bad form to follow one's own posts but last night I played Winter in America again and - wow, what a record. Then followed with a few of his others.
These tracks have all the prescient, righteous fire that a certain few, other great American writers have brought to bear on their own society; I'm thinking maybe only Hunter S Thompson or Hubert Selby Jr, amongst his peers. Yet throughout there remains a great lyrical, even tender quality, and pure groove in places. 'Song for Bobby Smith', 'The bottle' , 'H2Ogate blues' - any of those three alone are more than most acclaimed artists ever get close to. Peace go with you, brother.
