Playing EVERY thing he did,run up to Xmas. The whole caboodle, everything.

Saab, as we can't get Radio 3 in Froggyland, do you know if it's available on the Net?

Cheers

From the BBC site:

The composer's entire surviving body of work will be performed by some of the world's greatest musicians including specially recorded performances by Sir John Eliot Gardiner , Yo-Yo Ma , Angela Hewitt , Philippe Herreweghe and Ton Koopman.

Cantata Hour
At mid-day each day there will be an hour devoted to possibly the greatest little-known body of music, Bach's cantatas: John Eliot Gardiner, in conversation with Donald Macleod, will delve into the rich variety of the surviving 200 or so sacred cantatas.

Bach page here: radio 3

Alongside the broadcasts available via Radio Player during the Beethoven week (JS gets 10 days) a number of performances were made available for download for a limited time; apparently had these downloads been transfered to the pop charts we would have had Ludwig at No.1!

It is good to know that, even in these dark Bushian days, civilisation has not perished from the face of the earth.

I think it is possible to have too much Bach.
Possibly true - one should listen to inferior music once in a while, in order to recharge one's appreciation of The Master. :D

Any recommendations (apart from Led Zep)?
Tongue firmly in cheek of course. Handel, Monteverdi, Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Tallis, Byrd, Blow, Purcell, Charpentier, Rameau, Vivaldi, the Gabrielis...

And I did say music, which rules out You-Know-Who...

The only problem, as far as I can see, is that the BBC is trying to cram too much into too short a space of time and may 'overload' listeners with Bach. For regular listeners of Bach it is an absolute banquet but for newcomers may not give them the time to start to appreciate his works. Others may be put off by switching on the radio and finding jolly old Bach yet again - oh no! Just some of my random thoughts.

It will be an interesting experience whatever and I am buying some additional mini discs for recording the FM broadcasts (the internet broadcasts are poor in my experience)

Apparently, when they did the same for Beethoven, they had 1.3m downloads,so it was a huge success, hence why they are going it for the bloke from Liepzig.Hopefully they will do a Lep Zep month just for some balance.

If they need a month for Bach, don't you think one day is plenty for Led Zep? (who BTW ranks way up in my personal rock Pantheon)
