Has anyone successfully tried re-spraying their hifi equipment. Reason for asking is I have a WHITE Sky+ box and would prefer it to be black. The top case is metallic whilst the front panel is plastic.

Would anyone suggest a suitable spray paint. I'm not too worried about loosing the legends on the front panel but I could mask them if I can be bothered.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

I would look up repainting articles on computer modding sites, since the mix of materials (metal/plastic) is the same and the technique is the same. There are some good walkthroughs for dummies (including techniques for metallic paints).

I used plastikote spraypaint from halfords for my hifi rack (although it's got a little beaten up by slabs of granite and housemoving, so it will get repainted after I buy a house), on top of spray-on primer. You will probably need to sand the existing finish to provide a key for the primer and paint to adhere to. After that spray primer and then paint each in several thin coats, letting each one dry for a while.

Robert, what is it with you and Fablon, is it the new M&*a or do you have shares in Fablon ;)

Scott, I'm sure you can get spray paint that is fine with plastic, years back I did see some that was suitable for crash helmets.

Can't do that as it's not made in black. Hence the spraying

Just made some DIY seismic sinks and covered the pine "tray" with oak-effect Fablon - or "sticky-back plastic" for those of us born in the sixties. Looks quite good from my listening position, six foot away.
