I'm looking to upgrade my preamp in the music part of my system. Speakers for music are Magnepan 1.6's with a B&K 125W-8 ohms/185W-4ohms amplifier and a rather old (mid 1980's) Yamaha preamp. Purely solid state preamps don't seem to match up well with the Magnepans (which are truly great speakers).
Anybody have any recommendations? Don't want to spend an arm and a leg, but might be willing to go as high as $1,000 - $1,200. Any planar or ribbon fans out there?
