Does anyone think I should buy a Reel to Reel wanted one forever so im seriously thinking for nostalgas Sake. thing is are they still usable is the reels still buyable and how would the sound rate to todays sounds I like a good smooth sound Id be using it with a Quad Artera pre and Artera power amp also I swap over to my Quad QMP mono blocksI saw the reel to reel on Ebay its a Teac also a technics one next to it think I should buy it or let sleeping dogs lie?
Thanks guys

I have two Sony reel to reel recorders, both work but one has worn heads and I'm keeping it for spares.

While old/worn belts can usually be replaced economically, worn heads can cost more than the machine is worth - if they are available at all. Servicing costs can be high.

For good quality sound you need to be looking at a tape speed of at least 712 ips. Lower tape speeds on reel to reel lack top end (high frequency) clarity.

Personally I enjoy using my reel to reel, but be aware that service and running costs can be high.

Yes I get what you mean mate I just did up my LP12 2 grand to make it even credible in the brain of a linnie . Maybe Ill put a break on the reel to reel and wait for a bargain somewhere. Thanks I needed that to bring me out of cloud nine and get me back on terra firma Really apreciate that.
Thanks so much
