No I'm not getting a new sub. Other changes to my system mean that the main speakers now go so low that the sub is really no longer doing enough to justify the space it is occupying (and I need cash for my new motorcycle ;) ).

Nice one  Can I ask if that was the CD player change or some mains/cabling changes? You've probably posted this elsewhere and I've missed it; I'll have a nose...

Sorry for distracting this thread from its purpose, anyone want to buy a sub?

Mains cable changes produced an extra octave of bass from the main speakers (sub was switched off). I suspect that most of the magic is occurring in the amplifier.

Well it was going to be a Honda CBF250 but now that I've had a go on a Suzuki GS500 following my CBT yesterday, I'm not so sure. It'll quite likely be a Honda CBF500 (with ABS) but I shall survey the field first. The Suzuki is a nice bike (and at a nice price).

Ah,just on the start of the 'journey' then ;)
Totally off topic for which I appologise, but my advice would be to spend as little as possible on your first 'real' bike.Within months you will tire of it and then be on the lookout for a better, quicker and more nimble model.Use the money you will save on your second bike.
HTH.

Blimey. I'd assume that normally the Conways extend to maybe 40Hz, but now they're getting down to about 20Hz?

No they don't get down to 20 Hz. You can't work miracles. But they definitely go deeper than they did. Yes I can still hear the difference on a few tracks like those from Orbital, Leftfield and Massive Attack but the difference is no longer on the scale it was when I bought the sub and had much weedier main speakers and a much weedier amp. Also the effect higher up the frequency range is not as marked since the cable changes.

The eventual plan is to end up with some bigger main speakers one day but that's a way off yet.

So who wants to buy the sub? If you have standmounts or weedy floorstanders you should bring them over to technobear towers and have a listen.

Well I'll throw in my 10 cents worth for you.
I just bought one of these 2nd hand, and am pairing it with my B&W CDM1 NT's. The difference is just amazing. It doesn't only help get the real low bass it also brings out the mid band beautifully. I can't recommend this sub more. I sold my seperate integrated and power amp and am not missing them at all. The sub adds what they gave and more. Its also a beautiful peice of furniture. Amazingly discreat for its size.
£500 is a great price too. Good luck with the sale.

You were talking about getting an extra octave, that's all, which after all just means a factor of two frequency-wise (ie 40Hz to 20 or whatever) and seems quite an impressive result from a mains change.

Anyway, I'll sod off and let you sell your subwoofer now :)

This is a bit too early for me, but I imagine you've read the thread I started about adding a sub.

Like you with your MOtorbike hunt, I'm at the very early (pondering) stages of making changes.

Good luck with selling, what by the sounds of it, is a pretty damn fine sub.

Ah damm! If only i saw this thread 2 days ago before i got myself a brand new strata III for aboutt he same price! I should imagine the storm is slightly better but not head n shoulders tho. Im super duper chuffed with the strata-best sub ive ever heard IMHO and at sensible money. The bigger ST models like the storm must be even better! Although i did read somewhere that a Rel studio III owner swapped it for a pair of strata IIIs and said it was a big improvement over the more expensive model :)

Anywayz chris, good luck with the sale! I would have SOOO bought it if i havent already got my strata III which is more than capable enough for my small room :D
