enbee23.......

has sent me a fault cable

the fault was easy to diagnose as the ground return had come adrift from the plug body.

what was interesting was that as I scraped away the bad solder copper appeared

the web site states

"With The XXXXXXXXXX interconnect we start out with a high purity (99.99%) single, Teflon coated silver wire. Why silver? Because it's a better conductor than copper. Why 99.99% purity? Because 5N silver (99.999% purity) is rare and on average costs 5-10 times more and very hard to produce and find. 6N silver (99.9999% purity) is too soft to produce, in other words it CANNOT be produced! Moreover, even if one could produce it, it would probably cost 100-500 times what 4N silver costs."

This was a £250 ic

Something is seriously amiss here !

the pic is not the greatest ever but the pink of the copper is clear, if you enlarge it !

I've contacted the makers but still waiting for a reply

I suppose if you pay 250 for an IC you generally don't take it aprt to check the insides - unless you have to of course...

I guess starting out doesn't necessarily mean finishing with :)

ai've sent them an e-mail pointing them to this thread - assuming it doesn't get bounced back - I'll await there response...

ah...as I type this - I got it bounce dback which oncluded the folloiwing text -
"You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator."

I would make sure it REALLY is copper before making claims like that, but if it is -

But does the cable sound good?

The central /hot / signal wire appears to be silver.....ie its white metal

Theres no doubt the ground returns silver plate ....I've snipped the end off ...the cut bit shows copper.

Now having spoken to the owner again ...he bought them from off audiogon......I'm thinking that thay may be fakes or cheap coppies ?

So before everyone starts to slag off the company that I've not mentioned .....we take a deep breath and consider ourselves lucky that we've not been taken for a ride.

If the hot wire is silver then I don't see that anyone has been taken for a ride. Its silver just as they claimed.

I didn't realise this was going to be quite so public :(

I very much doubt that they are copies. Why bother going to the trouble of counterfeiting something that so few people have heard of? Kimber or Nordost et al, sure but not this stuff.

Interesting that the centre wire is possibly silver. The website does say "a" silver wire. I suppose that could charitably be interpreted as meaning only the centre wire and not the return. Hohum.

Glad I paid an Audiogon price and not manufacturer price...

Sorry my fault !

cables fixed by the way !

The cable sounds pretty good and has good quality plugs. Its a touch softer and a little thin sounding than my AgAu, but very acceptable all the same.

So whats to be learnt ?

read the spec very carefully !

I agree, rereading the description with the new knowledge... now makes a lot of sense and they have not told a porky just a half truth !
