Some views from the WHF? forum.....

Reggie Perrin

..... For what it's worth, I appreciate the DIY section, and the contributors seem knowledgeable enough, but they can also be insufferably opinionated, and many of them clearly need to get out more. The whole place just seems cliquey, really. In contrast, this chatroom seems a more amusing and open-hearted place to be......

the cow

Regggie, nice to see that you return from your perringrinations. An astute summary, it seems to me. Wannabe hifi journalists abound, egos aplenty. 'Wadia-meister', with a picture of his player as a logo? Good luck to you, but makes wardy look as self-effacing as Mother Theresa. The undercurrent seems to be 'I've got the best kit, so what I say goes.' MOoooo!

I've been a member there for a few years (and a fully payed up mag subscriber too ;) ). I tend to drop in once a week or so. The posters over there tend to discuss kit MOre in line with my budget and below. The two main problems are a) shite software, and b) A lot of the replies tend to be just straight quotes lifted from *THE MAG*. WHF? says it's good and then this is passed off as their own experience.

Someone looking to spend £1500 on an amp and had no reply. I made a few suggestions and pointed him over here as an option. I seem to have offended the locals! :o

That your new amp in your avatar robbo? Heaven forbid!

Whooo, do I get 5 stars as well :D serial muppets, Still, It's WHF , you would of thought, they should be able to tell the difference between an player and a dac though
How many WHF readers does it take to buy an m/f 308 intergrated? 3 one to turn to the review page, the other 2 to tell the sales assistant in sevenoaks, turn the new cyrus off :D
Do you reckon they do a Heroin review page as well ?, for some of the 'lacking members'

the awards issue is out. I'll have a flick through and see if you get a shout in there tone.

Well,

the bit about 'cliquey' I can relate to - we do know each other pretty well - however the rising numbers of the forum show that we appreciate the contributions of new people.

As for 'opinionated' - yeah, well, opinions come from experience - and I dont think this forum is lacking in that...unlike WHF!! - the publication is not a serious hifi magazine, and Im sure the forum reflects that.

Stuff em if they cant appreciate the best forum on the net.

:)
Here's to us!

I wouldn't worry about it too much...I frequent both forums (and some others) and I find it amusing...well, I have to do something whilst I'm at work...

just noticed THIS thread.

I don't get it. Someone asks for advice. Gets none. I suggest they a) be MOre specific in what they're looking for and b) point them here as a possible source of info/advice.

That then led to the quoted replies above and a few MOre followed. Apprently there's now a forum war! LMAO! I didn't slag WHF? forum! A few of them slagged here though.

In short "they started it"

MO! - you little trouble maker you :D

To be honest I've never spent more than about 30 seconds in the WHF forum, if you can even call it a forum. That interface is totally unusable!

Michael.

I don't really "hang out" there.

Just drop by every now and then. Been visiting it for quite a while now on and off and occasionaly there's an interesting thread.

Funny thing is. Though I do think the forum is poor. I didn't say anything bad about it in the post that's got them started!

I've offered them my msn add' if they wish to discuss further :)

Will probably take an hour or so to appear though
