Merlin new sub woofer enclosures, humm I wonder if 2 will be enough  :D

Thanks for that WM:)

The brief was to fill the room, although the idea was to do this with sound rather than speakers:D

The backs are now on, the terminals attached, and tomorrow the babies come home to daddy:D Many days ahead I feel, experimenting with damping, crossovers, and positioning.

But one things for sure, we have quite rigid cabinets as a base point:D

Urm, so who was doing the woodwork for the cabs then, WM? :D

Come on Henry, they ain't THAT big:D

The woodwork was done by Webb Furniture, Steve there is an MTBing buddy of mine. I helped out by generally fretting and causing stress:D

The cabinet was designed by Greg Timbers, the guy responsible for the JBL 9800 K2. We added the sloping sides, as UK rooms are more sensitive to Hummers placed along the wall. I reckon they'd look great with the monitor section of your Verities placed on top;)

Did I say anything about their size? ;) It's actually a bit difficult to tell because there's nothing else (of a known size) in the picture to compare them against.

Thought about it, but this pair are being finished in black buffalo hide, with Cherry side cheeks:eek: Think blatent Sonus Faber rip off:D

For reference, the cabs are 24" deep by 20" high and 23" wide at the bottom, tapering to 17" at the top. A 12"x 4" rear mounted flared port is used to tune the box to 27hz, so this isn't a typical boom box. It's designed more with music as it's primary focus, athough it should still put out 116db at 2 mtrs around 20hz:JPS:

Actually to be fair, it's been only slightly more hassle than ordering a sub from a dealer, and certainly less than doing so from some.

Ordered the drive units over the phone, a couple of emails got the plans, along with some great advice from Hippy and Test Tone. Ordered the amp and parts over the internet, and Steve picked the lot up and went to work.

And I can say, that it's a lot more fun that forking out cash at a dealers. ;) I feel there's a part of me in these babies, although given the size, you could get the whole of me in if you shoved hard enough:D

Could you give us a list of the parts you got? You may have mentioned it somewhere, but I can't find it.

Markus

I'm using the JBL 1500AL bass unit, vented using a 4" x 12" flared port in a 120ltr enclosure. You can see the cabinet is extensively braced and lined with BAF wadding. An external crossover is employed as is amplification.

The cost of the cabinets in parts so far has been £125 including glues, screws and cutting. I cheated as a mate is a cabinet maker, and he has done all the work and will be finishing them with the leather and cherry side cheeks tonight. He has charged me £700 for all the work and finishing for both cabinets.

I've also treated the cabinets to a set of RDC cones.

John, they are not designed to go really low, but hopefully the levels attainable will be enough to make their presence heard in some of the outer galaxies:D

Michael,

Great photos. Great enclosures.

The build looks excellent, and the bracing is text-book. I particularly like the idea of a hide-type covering - the finished articles should look excellent.
