Rotel 910A

Bargain!

I just paid £76 for a Technics tuner amp, CD player and dual cassette. This looks like an even better deal.

Rotel 910A arrived and turned out to be 810A:(. Not sure whether to give the seller the benefit of doubt or just assume that he was dishonest. For £28.11 I can't really expect too much I guess.

Dev, still looks a very good amp for £28.
What's it going to drive?

My CPA12, when they move.

As long as the amp works I won't leave a negative feedback. I just wish he'd cleaned it up before sending it :(.

Hi Rob,

The 831A works but unfortunately after moving the tone and balance controls, the sound cuts out on one or both channels, fiddling with them brings it back. I guess they are just dirty(?). Any suggestions, (apart from don't touch them:)).

Hi Dev,

Good blast with some switch cleaner and see what happens.
if that doesn't help, might be a loose connection. Happy to take a look if thats the case.

It sounds better than it should for £28.11:D. I'll be sorry to see it go to be honest. To me it sounds more detailed and less warm that your A&R60. There's not much between the Rotel and Luxman L-31 and I can happily live with either, but the Rotel has one advantage. I can actually listen to it because it's less susceptible to noise. I.e. I don't hear a loud click every few minutes as I do with the Luxman. Looks like I need to look at cleaning the mains supply into the Luxman, or find another amp:(.

Thanks Rob. Let me know when you're free and I'll come around, unless you want to pop around of course, then we can compare all 3.

Dev, there is an A&R Arcam Alpha amp in Cash Converters near me. Might suit you if you liked the older A&R?
