    Hello guys,
I would need your advice here.
I have a chance to buy fully functional Rotel RCD-1070.
    My questions are:

    1) is there a huge gap in terms of sound quality between RCD-1070 and current RCD-1072?
    2) As I don't have currently budget for 1072, should I go rather for 1070 or RCD-06?

    My setup is B&W 603 S 3, Rotel RB-1070 amp and Rotel RC-06 preamp.

Your thoughts and experience is much appreciated so please feel free to have your say. The more thoughts, the fuller picture in my head which way to go.

    Many thanks

    lukas

This is going to be totally useless to you, but I have a RCD1070 and am very happy with it. I haven't heard the 1072 or rcd06. I have been advised that the dac in the 1070 isn't the best in the world and that the 971 (or was it 970?) was actually a superior dac (pcm63).

How much have you been offered the 1070 for?

    James

Thank you James for your input.
With shipping it should be at around 200 GBP.

Anyone else has any experience or knowledge?
    thanks

I paid 235 delivered for mine 2 years or so ago so I think that's a bit steep. I put it on sale for 100 a fair while ago and got offered 80 for it... Decided I wouldnt sell so cheaply so still have it.

    No need to be sorry.
So what other cdp are you having if this one is for testing only?

It's the only one I have at the moment. When I say testing I just mean playing around with opamps in the output stage and associated psu regulation. Nothing major. So I don't really have a benchmark to test it against, other than pc and vinyl, using my ears as the test equipment...

    Hi Lukas,
I own the newer Rotel RCD-1072.. When partnered with the matching ra-1062 amp I found it was a big improvement over the CA Azur 640c I was using before - cleaner treble, not so much bass, an all round fuller and better sound.

I would definitley say rotel gear has great synergy, and voices well together. FWIW though I bought an old DacMagic 2 a few months ago for £60, and to my ear it sounds exactly the same as the rotel player! Definitley worth checking out for a cheaper upgrade option.

    Many thanks Dawson,
I was also considering Azur but after reading many reviews about technical problems with one channel I decided to stay with Rotel. I'm only wondering whether old 1070 is better then rc-06 and whether there's a huge gap between 1070 and 1072 (I believe not).
BTW. DacMagic 2 is D/A Converter right? You're saying that it sounds exactly as your Rotel Player, right? Then which player did you use for playing sound with? (I hope I understand it right and my question is not stupid).thanks lukas

The RCD-1070 is good, there is nothing wrong with the RCD-02 for that matter or the RCD-06.

I would prefer an Arcam CD73T, but they're very different sounding beasts.

    Hi Lukas,
Nowadays I rarely bother with CD - I use a softmodded xbox 1 with XBMC, which streams FLAC/MP3 from my PC. It's really convenient but the sound quality wasn't up to much so I bought the dacmagic 2. Connected up via toslink it sounds just as good as my Rotel player, so that's pretty much redundant now! As xboxes are so cheap now, it makes a great alternative to a squeezebox IMO.

As long as you have a decent transport on the CD player it shouldn't matter what player you use as the DAC does all the work. I picked my dacmagic up for £60 on eBay at Christmas, they really are a bargain for the price -particularly if you have anymore devices with a digital output.
