I just wanted to post this here in case some people don't venture in to the DIY section.

I am trying to get a group buy organised for some S&B TX102 transformers. These are arguably the best transformers you can get for a passive preamp (apart from custom made stuff).

If anyone wants to make a really top passive pre-amp then a pair of these and a few switches are all you need.

If I can get a buy of 20 or more units then the price will be £94 + VAT each. Individually they are around £150 + VAT so a good saving.

There are also some silver wire wound versions which are supposedly even better and I will get a price for these on Monday. I don’t see why the order could not be part standard and part silver.

There was a review on 6moons of S&B TX102 based preamp a while back - they liked the copper version better. Just a thing to consider before spending extra cash.

Tenson - can you ask S&B about the difference between copper and silver sound when you ask for prices please?

    Thanks!

    Nick.

I'm trying to gather up some more interest. I have a possible 14 orders so far. I need 20. Things like phono-stage step-up Xformers can also count.

I just joined PFM to get more interest but I can't post a new thread, what’s with that?

By the way silver wound TX-102's are £295 + VAT each.
The copper, if we can get 20, were £94+VAT each.

I would go with copper lol!

I think you have to wait to be approved by a moderator.

I need stereo pair each for step up and TVC.

Have you made any progress with this group buy?

I've just come across this thread, I'm interested in their LCR RIAA modules. I've tried dealing with them directly, but it's like pulling teeth.

Yes the group buy was a success. I would suggest you buy the transformers from one of S&B's distributors.
