Problems in the Low Countries.
Last year Ton Koopman's Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra was cut off from their subventions by the Dutch Government. Results so far: 6 people fired (Koopman's entire staff), withdrawing from sponsors, and cancelling of concerts.

And now Belgium may do the same thing to Sigiswald Kuijken's La Petite Bande, a few days after Kuijken received a cultural prize.
Unfortunately I do not know of a site to support Koopman, but there is one for Kuijken:

I'm surprised that these groups are so dependent on Government subsidies. To the best of my knowledge, Gardiner and the Monteverdis receive no Government money. This has certainly been true of The Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields right from its founding by Neville Marriner.

I read somewhere that baroque music groups were seldom financed when they started. And what with the new tendency to liberal politics and the present day crisis I think no government will subsidize baroque music.

But then you certainly know all about this...

Good news!

The Belgian government decided to support La Petite Bande, against the advice of the cultural committee.

:)
