I'll put this over here too....

    Hi

I was taking apart an old computer last night.

A mate had installed a rather nice plextor cd writer in it so I have taken that out and would like to install it into a purpose built(bought) box.

As you can see the wires don't entirely match up.

Do I have the relevant ones to make it work?

I hope its clear from the pic the big long one on the left will plug in, the white blocky thing with four prongs will too, but not the long thin lead in the middle.

Am I in with a chance here?

This pic shows the back of the recorder with its sockets.

In the fore ground the receptive part of the box into going into. So the leads shown shoiuld link up satisfactorarily with the plextor recorder.

Close up of theback of cd recorder, , shows the long plug gets a socket and so does the whitre four proged one, but the middle one doesn't.

    Sorry about the rotten focus.

The two ticked cables plug in, the one with a cross on it won't.

The red and black wire just returns to the outside case.

All looks ok to me - a CD drive is usually connected by the power, the data cable, and the audio cable (which internally normally connects directly to the sound card but with your box connects to phono sockets). Looks the right sort of cable - won't it reach to the analogue audio out pins on the drive?

I'd connect up the power and data cables and see if it works!

    That probably is the conclusion.

The instructions, such as they are, suggest it certainly should work as a cd driver box but is more designed as a HDD enclosure.

Both the packaging and manual say it can be used as a cd rom enclosure too though, so we'll see.

All cables reach, as far as that is concerned. Its deceptive now as it is not all screwed together yet.

    Thanks.

    Yes I know.

I paid good money for the plextor. I'd like to save it if I could.
