Thank you all for your kind remarks. Is it not lovely to have friends that you have never met but you still get a nice fealing when you hear from them i do guess its my age. Noel W.
Not trying to poke fun Noel, but do you have a wry smile when other ZGers refer to "vintage" hi-fi kit? I guess there's a fair few products out there that haven't aged that well compared to you... Great to see such a range of people on here
Noel I have a few customers your age (my oldest customer is 86) but my oldest proper customer (e.g actually uses her computer) is 81 and some of the things she uses her computer for is quite shocking. She looks quite a bit younger (more like 60) and has a habbit of chatting up far eastern men on chat rooms! She is very internet savvy but is always a pleasure to work for. My question is how did you get into using the internet? Have you been using computers for many years or was it just a sudden thing? It is a subject I am very interested in due to my work. I find it fasinating that there are 84 year olds using the internet, I know there is no reason they shouldn't but I am not sure when I am older (if I get older) I would embrace technology as well have yoy did. I am already well out of date on web development technologies now as I have made no effort to keep up with latest trends. My late grandad started using the internet when one of his son's gave him a computer. He was 77 when he learnt and I think it was a good distraction as he was very ill, my grandma still has the computer she is almost 80 but has no interest in it at all, she dosn't even know how to use a mouse.
Amazingtrade i purchased a DEll Lap TOP three years ago this month never even knew how to turn it on. Well i did turn it on did not know it had a battery in it then i could not turn off .i then knew i would need a few lessons to get me going Now i use it for all manner of things like talking to friends like you. Regards NOEL W
Yes, that great. I have older friends I met during college ( mid 80s). I wish they would take an interest it would make it far easier to keep in touch. credit crunch issues men I can't get to them now. Edit. AT, ys i've had a look a round the electrical stores a few weeks back nad the changes in technology are a bit scarey. Unfortunately they seem to heavily involve ipod things which I guess = compressed (ie crappy) music which we are all supposed to be glad about. Its all shiny boxes nd enormous TV screens now.
My problem is I run a technology company and I am still playing records on black things made out of vinyl. I am well up on computer hardware, the latest viruses and operating systems but when it comes to web development I left four years ago knowing the latest trends such as XML web services but not only have I forgotton what I have learnt I have not kept up also. I really need to make a fairly complex website just to keep up.
No one knows everything. Just keep playing the plastic things. You'll keep your sanity that way....or stand more chance of it.
noel, just for the record, WE ARE NOT GETTING OLD, just matureing like a good vintage wine, cograts, nando, p.s.it just's get's better with time.
