Note: This was not done on purpose (by the pet owner) and the cat is fine and back to normal.

"My sister-in law is from Oklahoma and has a slight accent. She has cats and when she lived in the south she would take them to the groomers and have what is called a Line Cut. To her a line cut is when all of the fur hanging down below the cat's tummy is taken off (because it gets matted or
snarled).

When she moved to Chicago with my brother, one of the cats fur got all tangled up during the move so she took it in for a line cut. She was quite surprised when she heard the price as it was twice as much as it was down south. She confirmed with the groomer that he understood what a line cut was and he said "yes, I know what a LION cut is." It seems her accent came out sounding like LION, not LINE... and this is how her cat was returned to her.

She cried for a week...but not as much as the cat. It was November in Chicago and the cat needed all the fur it had."

Gas in car to go to groomers $4.50
Cat car carrier $32.99
Grooming fee $80.00
Getting the look from one seriously pissed off cat: Priceless!

the scary thing is that someone would pay to have that done to their pet on purpose. that sort of person should be tarred and feathered imho.

Do Lions have particularly hairy feet then? I didn't think they did.

I hope that cat's fur didn't take too long to grow back, as it looks seriously unhappy there (and I don't blame it!).

We have a white Norwegian Forest cat (very long haired, but without the squashed face of a Persian) and his fur used to get terribly matted and into knots that were impossible to brush out so on two occasions we had to get it all shaved off. He looked rather similar to the cat above. He did look rather hillarious but you could tell he was well p*ssed off about it and we felt rotten for having had to do it.

Subsequently the problem seems to have been alleviated by a change of food which has made the fur much less prone to tangling somehow. His fur now only rarely gets any matting and we now always brush him often enough to sort any issues out before it's too late.

Michael.

That is quite frightening, how long does the fur take to grow back? Also does the furr look exactly the same as it did (i,e colour patterns)?

I would imagine the cat would have to wear some kind of blanket to keep him/her warm.

In the case of our cat it took abnout 6 months or possibly even more for the full-on shaggy coat to come back but he stopped looking stupid after a few weeks.

I have to say, with the summer heat in Lisbon and the temp inside the house reaching above 30degC (we don't have a/c) I wondered whether it wouldn't be kinder to have at least given him a little trim but he doesn't seem to bothered by the heat.

i think the americans are pushing legislation through congress to force all cats to have a lion cut. that way they can be sure that they aren't bin ladens cohorts concealing guns, c4 and anthrax in their fur.

So, I'm the only one who laughed at this then?
Everyone in the office thought that was absolutley hilarious and hideous at the same time.
I Wouldn't dare look at that shaved ***** at home, though, in case either of my owners caught me sniggering...

Looks a bit like an undernourished supermodel in furs an nothing else. DO you think Americans, obsessed as they are with lingerie, find this kind of things alluring?
