I have just read in another place that media player software takes time to break-in for best sound quality.

I'm truly flabbergasted and lost for words........

I am both appalled and unsurprised (link by PM please Rob ;) )

    YET, serious point:

If the output of software takes time to get used to, it flags a fundamental issue that no-one should be surprised by. Now we are all through the looking-glass and future music will essentialy be digital in delivery, the contents of proprietary software and the underlying assumptions/ bad maths and its implementation/ 'proprietary software' assumptions / unintentional but far-reaching fu**ups and missapplied dither etc are - unless we all are vigilant - almost beyond control.

It is right, no, essential that serious questions relating to Quality - what it is, what it could be, and how we know when it is actually delivered - continue to be asked. And if the wider community who claim to care care about 'audio quality' don't do it, no-one else will.

    It's going to get worse.
These wack-jobs have ruined hifi, marginalising the hobby with shamanistic BS.
It would appear they are moving into digital/streaming/computer audio.

imerge came out during the 1990's with a system called RAID, to prevent content loss, but the music is MP3 at 320kbp/s(for below). wich means it is cd quality or below, there is no news from imerge nor knowledge on data usage "needs burnig in" i can only asume that somebody is making excuses for they f.ups.

I'm convinced this happens in order to bolster what is essentially a fake industry sitting alongside the real one.

Heaven forbid that we get to a stage where we have compete, or at least sufficient understanding in various areas. it seems this is not allowed since once we've reached the end of the road, there is nowhere to go, the subject discussion closes and the opportunity to lie in order to sell product is removed.

So a new layer is added, one which pushes the science aside and reintroduced the questions and doubt.

I don't think you should be too hasty in coming to a conclusion.
Aren't you forgetting the inherent instability of the third quadrant?
It is well know that resonant right-hand-polarized and non-resonant left-hand-polarized waves, propagated roughly parallel to an external magnetic field, can be unstable,( at least until it warms up).It is also a fact that the unstable region can extend well into the audible frequency range.
    Well,that's what i think anyway.
    Open the cage...............

Wow are some people gullible enough to think that some people are gullible enough to believe it:)
Perhaps if it is learning SW!

Seriously though the more SW is used in peer review, basic / function / integration testing the better it may sound;-)

I assume that this is the reason my spreadsheets give poor detail until they have been used a few times, and the PC left running for 4 or 5 days.

I'm not sure who is the biggest *******, those that spout it, or they that take it all far too seriously
