I attended a demo last week at the 'listen up' store in Boulder Colorado www.listenup.com of the B&W 703 off of some Rotel electronics - I thought they were really good, quite a good marriage me thinks.

There's two CD players, one about £100 more than the 507, and one about £100 more than the 588

Looks nice. Is it available in black. Could be a worthy successor to the Alpha 9.

Without wishing to lower the tone, the aesthetics look like the bastard child of a 500 Series box and one of those Grundig seperates that they made in the early 90's (the ones they sold in Argos).

That said, I'm sure it'll sound fantastic, and that one-box pre/CD/tuner could potentially be a corker for the money.

    simon,
maybe the 'G' designation indicates it's grundig heritage :D.

3.5k for a cd / tuner / pre hmmmm if i was in that market i'd go for an end of line tag aphrodite which looks much better and when your are compromising things by stuffing everything in one box aesthetics are the major consideration.

i wasn't that impressed with them in the flesh at heathrow although the dvd's picture was gorgeous - admittedly this was on a megabuck sim back projector so that may have had something to do with it.
    cheers

    Meridian prices

From the Audio-T website, the prices of the Meridian gear are:

The G07 is about £400 or so more than the 507... wonder what makes the price hike justified?? Still uses 24/192 DACs and is spec'd similarly.

I showed the G07 picture to my wife and she loved it... she would not let me buy a 507 as its even uglier than my Arcam Alpha 9.

    Re: Meridian prices

I suspect exactly the same justification as Arcam used for the FMJ CD23 which was basically an Alpha 9 in a much better all-metal case. Hi-tech casework costs a lot of money apparently.

I "heard" the new AV gear at Heathrow but since it was in the lobby I couldn't get a good impression. Looks nice though.

When will Meridian start making sensible remotes instead of shipping a PC Keyboard with every bit of kit?

Chris, if you like 9 and cd 23, then I'm afraid the thnew M gear isn't for you, it's good, and majors on niceiness & accuracy, but I do like the new look.

I preferred the look of the 500 series, which was extremely elegant in the flesh. The black version of the new stuff looks a lot better than the silver, but I thought the new buttons felt a bit cheap and flimsy compared to the old.

Saw them at Heathrow, didn't hear them, but they're unlikely to be anything other than good. Meridian make very good CD players, no question about it.
