Help! I'm stuck and can't figure out what to do next.

    Current system = very old Naim 72/Naxo/HiCap x 2/135 x 4/SBL's/Rotel CDXXX?/LP12/Lingo/Aro/Troika.

I need a better CD player. Want a decent DVD player. Want the option of moving to a 5.1 setup at a later date. I'm tired of lots of boxes (or more to the point my wife is really tired of all these boxes).

Obvious solution, is to migrate to a Naim DVD5/AV2/175/FC type of setup, but there's still the clutter of boxes. Or go for something like an Arcam setup. Or I could go for a Meridian 1 box setup with active speakers.

If you were in my shoes what would consider doing?

James, since you are resolutely against auditioning kit, may we all pray that you never feel a need to upgrade?

Auditioning kit is a bit of a waste of time, I agree. Far better to just buy whatever secondhand bargain comes your way.

Thats the way I buy, if something looks pretty on eBay, buy it. If you Don't like it, sell it!
You can get some nice kit like that (my Rotel amps, which i will shortly be making a shrine too) or some AWFUL kit; My Acoustic Research CD06.

I got stuck with that CD player for 6months, on a blind test i could not tell it apart from my PC cd player. but as I sold it for a £60 profit, I'm happy =-)

Well said... I always buy new kit at a good price and if I don't like it sell it on. Bit of a pain to do this with speakers as you end up delivering them.

The Chef, the new NVi from naim looks like it could be just what you are after, plus you will be quids in.

If it were me, and DVD needed to be part of it, I would sell the lot, by the NVi some NSats and a sub, you would still have a few quid left over.
