I have one of these superb CD players and was thinking of selling it. Anyone know what they are currently worth? I know they have achieved a cult status with a lot of people modding them.

Yes that's the one. Gold top loader with a clamp to hold the disc. The whole CD player just breathes quality.

    Nice player.
I had one and added a high performance clock (pfm flea) and did a few other mods.

Probably better as a transport than a CD player.
The internals are actually the same as one of Sony's less expensive front loading machines but good nonetheless.

I had the player after Rob, and used it as a transport. It worked very well like that, but I really don't rate it as a stand-alone CD player. I tend to think most digital stuff sounds alike, however this didn't, it smoothed over details and sounded less engaging to my ears (than e.g. a Naim CD player Rob also had, or my modded DEQ2496 DAC).

I've got an unmodded one and like it, I prefer it as a stand alone player to using it as a transport for my V-DAC (which I now just use for my computer). I've also got a Sony SCD XB950 SACD player and it sounds pretty much identical to that. I believe both players have a very high output impedance which I guess may explain the smoothness in some contexts. I've not tried mine with my 2nd system passive preamp, but I read somewhere it may not be a good match.

    Tony.

PS You did realise the Sony has four filter settings? Some sound fairly different, and most are smoother than the standard one. I tend to use mine on the default setting.
