Speaker advice - help, in the dark!

Hmm - thanks Gordan. Chewing it over, have been offered a pair. . . .

Bizarrely, there are 3 pairs of Extrema readily available at the moment...

- Central Audio have a pair for £3k
- Weald Audio have a pair - currently advertised on Audiogon for £3250.
- an ebay seller in Cardiff has listed the same pair a couple of times for £3500.

Don't know the history of two of the pairs, but the 2nd pair in the above list has had new drivers fitted reasonably recently.

Thanks Gordan - Anubisgrau - SONUS FABER EXTREMAS - stunningly good and sound fantastic - a great reccomendation. I tried to buy Weald Audio's but they dont reply to e mails! Ah well, went elsewhere got them cheaper to boot and now have a pair of Extremas sitting at old English Sheepdog height. I think they may remain here for a long time.

Thanks also to everyone for chipping in ideas as ever appreciated.

My suggestions would be Focal Utopia Micro's/Diva's Audio Physic Virgo or Avatnti's Lawrance.

My Virgo II's are superb! A much better match for my Sugden Masterclass than the previous Sonus Faber Electa Amator II's (but possibly not as good looking?).

Just to reiterate how incredibly good these Sonus Faber Extremas are. using with a Krell and I do believe for the first time, for some while, I have a speaker/amp partnership which will remain for a very long time. Listening late last night I didn't want to go to bed - just track after track sounding fantastic. Once I settle on whether I go passive or valve with the pre I'm there!!!
