    Hi,

Please understand that FFRC especially is a very cheap and easy cable (note that I advise EXPLICITLY AGAINST BRAIDING) and it's competition is the < £ 10/stereo meter category, basically Naim/Linn Cable and other cheap stranded stuff.

I worte the article explicitly to provide people with a "entry level" project into DIY Cables, not to make the Cable to outperform all other cables (that Job remians for the UBYTE, now in Revision 6 or so and scarecely resembeling the original al all)....

So I completely agree, it's okayish, but at a cost that tends to be free (ask the cabeling contractors in your office for a leftover reel next time they are around) to < £ 3 per stereo meter and a little work it is actually not bad at all.

    Ciao T

Should anyone wish to build it, I can supply 1583ENH in smaller quantities than RS and at a competitive price. Let me know when I'm back from holiday.

£15 including P&P is a give away considering the time that takes to make them correctly.
May be some lucky guy at the HFC Forum will grab it.

I heard that some years ago, there was a group buy of Teflon UTP cable from the US. How was that cable like?

Searched for UBYTE and dragged this old thread up.

I made up some of these cables using WT100 twin (shotgun),
expanded Teflon insulator, copper core, and that beautiful solid copper shield.
All really easy to solder to. That made making the cable pretty easy.

I followed the instructions but instead of using flexi cable at the end I used two solid cores for each pole, suitably insulated.

I also thought, hell, that stuff might make an interesting interconnect, so I made one up - more on that later.

I hate all the 'special' words HiFi reviews use but guess my summary below contains a few of them :).

The first listening test; WF100 speaker cable, bi-wired. Still on old
    interconnect).
Wow, vocal's / guitars / percussion are really clear and have a totally different presence. Hard to describe but the detail and imagery between the speakers really came to the fore.
To start with I considered the bass perhaps not as well defined as my Cat5e Tripple T speaker cable.
As an hour or two were racked up on different (standard test) tracks, I began to think the bass was getting better (burn in?).
Didn't have time to try single wired.
I popped the WF100 interconnect in, and if anything though it re-enforced the effects of the WF100 speaker cable. Even more vocal presence and imagery - no bad side affects.

I got wifey to listen and her comment was the vocals seemed to be present / alive in a new way.
She could def. hear a difference and liked it.

Certainly there's an atmosphere and presence beyond what I've heard before on my system.
It's as if a filter on certain frequencies has been removed / lifted -
exactly what has happened I guess (filters come in many guises).

Anybody else built / tried it?
