Speaker impedance question

This is my first post and I was unable to access the posting tutorial on the help pages so please forgive any newbie mistakes. I appreciate any constructive criticism. Here goes:

I own two pair of speakers: a pair of Sansui SP-3000s and a pair of ESS model 10s. The Sansui speakers are listed as 8 ohm impedance and the ESS speakers are allegedly rated at 6 ohms although the ESS rating is from on line information, not on the speakers themselves. I was told by an audio re-seller that I should not run both pair simultaneously due to different impedances but it would be OK to operate one pair or the other at a time. I'm not sure I trust the source of this caution due to other unsatisfactory interactions with them and would like other opinions on the subject. I'm planning on purchasing a Sony STRDH190 in the near future and would prefer not to damage it immediately.
