I don't post very often but i would like to pick your brains if i may.

Is it ok to put my floor standing speakers either side of a log burning stove? I'm thinking of the heat and possible problems.

Anyone have a similar set up? have you had any problems?

    Cheers

It depends on how close you want to put the speakers to the stove. I had a pair of avantgerde horns either side of a stove without problems.

If you would feel comfortable sitting there all day long, then the speakers will probably be okay too. If you would find it uncomfortably hot, then its a bit close.

I notice great differences in sound depending on the temp. Over warm and the music sound's that way, too cold and the music can sound's harsh and uncomfortable.

Keep the burner going steady i suppose...

    Thanks for your advice.

The speakers are about 33 inches away from the sides of the log burner. I'll see how things go when the fire's glowing.

    cheers

The link shows my horns next to the Coal burner. They were fine.

One more thing. Now the hifi will be at the side whats the best way to cope with the extra cable for the closest speaker?

either use a shorter cable or fold it neatly. I used a shorter length. I couldn't hear any difference.

Some people say not to coil the cable - something to do with inductance I think.

True, but to be honest the amount is going to be tiny, just don't put an iron core in it ;)

the only downside to uneven cable lengths in real terms, is resale value. I seriously doubt that anyone would be able to here the difference in a few metres of high purity copper cable
