I have been adviced that these speakers will go very well with my Quad 405.

I have never heard these speakers.

Are they room friendly?

Can they be place close to a back wall?

They will work very well with a 405, but sadly not usually close to a rear wall. You'd need a couple of feet behind them.

However..... you have a Quad 44 pre which has bass step controls so you can step down the bass response which will make near-wall use a possibility. This is the beauty of the Quad pre amps - they are designed for use in the real world.

IIRC you use TDL transmission lines in a small room close to the rear wall. In which case the Spendor will certainly be no worse at the bottom end.

SP1 will be to big. Something like the SP2 will do me fine. Will love to hear them on my system.
