I dont suppose anyone knows how to set the pre sets on these, the original one, as I have one and have no manual, also not sure what the filter or a.f.c buttons do?

Any tips on how to get the very best from this wonderful piece of kit,

It's a long time ago, but if it's the original one in the wooden casing, I seem to remember you had to push in two of the buttons (not sure which!) for the presets. Won't Sugden help?

AFC you press once the station has been tuned manually to keep it on frequency (auto frequency control) and I think the filter was a hi-bandpass filter for stations with lower output on stereo.
 
yes it is the wooden cased one, thanks for that, i know its obvious but i hadnt thought of ringing sugden, will do,
