Hi all,
Wish to ask your advice on the following.

In the next month or so, Im looking to upgrade my current pair of sonus faber auditor M speakers.
Main reason for this is that I have had to move a number of things around in my hi-fi room (which also doubles as the familly living room). 4.6x3.3M.
My mobile 19 month old daughter is the main cause of this................

Im wanting to investigate any 'hi-end' loudspeakers that work well positioned close to a rear wall.

Many thanks for your replies in advance.

Hi,

What's the rest of your system? How much do want to spend? Also are you prepared to buy 2nd hand/ ex dem?

Hi there,
many thanks for your reply.

Rest of system:
Arcam fmj P1 power amps
Arcam DV139 (DVD/CD)
Arcam AV9 preamp

On the budget front Im prepared to go up to £5K (interested both in new and used)
Once Ive decided on the speakers I'll also look at the amp side of things.

Cheers

Linn Uniks are deisgned to work in surround duty on a rear wall or side walls. They have a small port that specifically wants to be near to the wall. The same applies to Katans, which like to be around 12 cm from the wall, and can serve well in rear duties if the pair against the front wall are large and/or you have a sub.

Nando, what does WOUP stand for?

He is talking about these - http://www.audiosmile.com/kensai.htm

Designed for close to wall placement and should better the Auditor M on quality, while maybe not absolute volume level capability.

Would you also consider active speakers and selling your power amps? The PMC AML1 are really awesome, and have bass tilt controls for placing them near walls.

Some of the smaller Horning speakers aren't fussy about position. I've had a couple of pairs.

With your budget why not look at the Revel GEM 2? Made for on or near wall placement, with great build quality.

Not heard them but I do have the M22 Performa, the tweeter adjustment and wall placing switches are useful. My only criticism is that they can appear a bit 'Grey' sounding (metal tweeter).

I've just looked at the UK distributor web site and see that despite the $7500 retail price they sell them here for 6500 GBP, never mind. You might get a massive discount.

GT Audio have a pair of ex dem Avantgarde Nano for £5k - normally £9k.

I've had my Duos in a number of houses, sometimes very close to the wall. They are now in free space, but work very well close to the wall (with the active subwoofers dialed down a little) due to the fact that they are very directional
