Has anyone had any experience with equipment supports for valve amps? I have been playing around supporting the ARC with a DIY Seismic sink made from 2 boards and a couple of inner tubes with astonishingly good results. There are real gains to be had here IMO. Anything else worth trying?

    Cheers, Robbo

    Titian,

It depends on how heavy and large your equipment is, but the sinks are from £250 for a small one to about £500 for one which can support 100 kg

A bit more experimentation is required for me before I buy anything but if the experimentation is successful, I may well buy one.

I am finding there is a lot more detail, bass is more controlled and deep and the midrange improvement startling.

For Valve amps, I would also demo Voodoo, I took my sink along to the show, and the stein hearts were more 'in focus' on them, but do try both, berfore committing

I recently tried a Croft Radford STA 15111 combination on my Mana rack and the results were pretty outstanding.

The Radford owner is now buying Mana and I want a Radford, I think he's got it easier.

My Leak Stereo 20's on the (carpeted, concrete) floor, on a chopping board in case of leaky caps (no baseplate). Sounds fine there to me. It's too high to get into the rack anyway.

Well then I would try also the Valid Points if there is enough height in the rack.

Asbestos or any non inflammable surface should suffice Neil!

I'd try the Gibralter series, as the sand could come in handy for it's extinguishing qualities.

You could also try a piece of closed-cell polyethylene like Zotefoams LD45. I'm sure you could probably blag a piece from your local supplier for free if you said you were evaluating it with a view to marketing some new hi-fi supports.

Thanks guys, I am of course delighted to be back in this fine land that we unfortunates call home;)

Two weeks with an i Pod and TDK Nxt's kinda puts it all into perspective. But Robbo really needs a Finite Element Pagode that serves not only as a great support, but also a classy piece of furniture and my next flight out!

    Hi Michael,

Glad you had a great time. It seems to have been no time at all since you went away.

    Nice try ;)
