I couldnt believe my eyes when i walked past my local crap converters, usually they have cheapo all in 1 systems and the odd cheapo seperate on display, not mentioning shagged car audio subs and other junk but today they had a load of top kit in the window. Tag Mclaren AV32R processor in mint cond' alongside the matching 5ch avantgarde power amp selling as a pair for £2395! Next to that pair was a phat Rotel 5ch processor and even phatter 5ch beast of a power amp THX ultra certified going at £799 a piece

Bit out of my price range and im more than happy with my current setup but any1 in norwich looking to upgrade should snap em up while they r still there!

Would prefer something with back up service and not stolen ;)

Comes with the premium 60 day warranty, im sure if it goes wrong the highly qualified electricians of CC will help you fix it :D

The staff in there all look like mugs, i reckon they have night jobs as well-steal as much as poss to sell in store, person who stole the item gets comission :D

Yep, I wouldn't touch it with a bardge poll, its a good way of getting arested for receiving stolen goods.

My uncle is a policeman and has always warned against them shops, they are the number one way theifs off load their goods apart from ebay and the local pubs.

You're also right the staff do look a bit shady in those type of shops. My all time favourite was when I saw a Panasonic CD player going for £100, but actually it was a Matsui the identical including the model number as the ones Dixons were selling new for £50 at the time. Somebody had taken the Masui badge off it and replaced with a Panasonic one.

I assume TAG has a system were the owners record the serial numbers with the manufacturer to guard against thefts?

you can't get arrested for buying goods in good faith.

True but if you lost your receipt you could get into trouble. Plus if they do turn out to be stolen they can take the goods of you even if you can proove you have paid of them. This happened to my uncle when he bought a car that turned out to be stolen. Luckily the owner of the car had already recieved insurance money for a new car so they let my uncle keep the car and the police were ok with that.

No its a different uncle, the uncle who had the stolen car dosn't even live in Manchester.

dont the police have to proove you knew the goods were stolen?>
No the law simply says Caveat Emporer, ie buyer beware. You buy stolen goods and you are in posession of them the legitimate owner is entitled to their return, and you lose out. That's why you shouldn't buy a car without an HPI check for example

To get back to cash converters, they do do employ a service techy in the shops I've been into. They wouldn't run the risk of litigation from faulty 2nd hand electrical stuff otherwise.

I once bought a nice 70s tuner from CC for £15. I had a chat with the repair guy on the way out. He seemed competent to me. I think they do a good deal for the purchaser.

Handling stolen goods is a bit more tricky than whether you actually know they are stolen. If for example, you are offerred and buy a naim 552/500 for a £100, the Police may still arrest and charge you on the basis that you would be well aware that a £100 is way below the value and any reasonable person would know something is dodgy.

Well... some people wouldn't pay £100 for that...

If CC's were that bad, dont you think the cops would have a stolen goods dept in the back of every shop with a camera/mugshot link to every cop station?

What's more a pity is that pawnbroker types such as these are seemingly on the ever increase.

As said earlier Caveat Emptor!
