am reluctantly selling my Tannoy Berkeleys, as they were just too much for my small room.

Having recently bought the speakers which were made in October 1977, I sent both 15" HPD 385 drivers, the two crossovers and two speaker binding posts back to Roger at Lockwood Audio in July.

Roger re coned both drivers, checked out the crossovers, rewired the internal speaker cable with Chord Rumour 2 I supplied, and then replaced the old speaker binding posts so the Berkeleys now take modern speaker cables.

The internal wiring is now all hardwired. The total Lockwood Audio cost alone was £480.

On Roger's suggestion I removed the old speaker plinth which I still have, and fitted a sheet of finished MDF under the speakers. I then got granite speaker plinths made in black granite with 4 Atacama tube legs (sand filled) per stand to raise the speakers to the recommended listening height. The granite top & bottom plinths are made from 30m granite and each stand weighs >35kgs and the speakers are 41kgs.

How did they sound, in a word fantastic, it gave the music a sense of space and depth of sound stage. I then found on certain music that I was getting too much bass, which is a room problem, and I have had it when ever trying floor standing speakers. The only resolution is to go back to stand mounts so the Tannoy Berkeleys are now up for sale.

I have spent £1,400 on these speakers in last few months and I am looking for the same. Collection from Gloucestershire, and I am prepared to deliver within 50 miles of Gloucester.

The speakers have now been sold

    HOWEVER

The black granite stands are still for sale, purpose made for the Berkeleys (see the photos).

2 granite plinths of 30mm black granite with 4 Atacama SL300 (in black too) legs on each stand currently kiln dried sand filled.

Each stand weighs 15 kgs and they look fantastic with the speakers.

Cost me well in excess of £200 to get made. Will accept £100.

Would make great amp stands for a pair of mono block power amps!:)
