A mini bake off today, with Robbo, Julian, myself, WM and Merlin checking out Ju's new computer based audio system and transmission lines.

Thanks very much Julian for being a great host, it was a lot of fun.

I seriously want a squeezebox and a digital jukebox as an extra source!

    NB
Some trouser flapping bass from those transmission lines, and a nicely integrated mid/treble, that never became harsh.

    Nice one!
    Chris :)

    Thanks Julian,

It was a fun afternoon with some very interesting discussions! The speakers sound great (almost as much bass as me now :p ) and a diverse range of music was played (including Dolly Parton and Wham!).

I must organise a return visit soon.

    Cheers Neil

Fair enough Ju, I have plenty of compilations were I just bought the album for the majority of the tracks, but not for 1 or 2 minority of embarrassing bad ones. I mean I've got a Stock, Aitkin and Waterman "Hit Factory" compilation somewhere... :D

I'm ducking out now to watch the Bohemiam Rhapsody docu on BBC3. ;)

hmmm this is one unforseen disadvantage to having a hdd based source. everyone can dig out all those embarassing albums and tracks that are lurking on there. the robert palmer i have no excuse for - i just like his music, sorry but i was a teenager in the 80's and those power babes from the adicted to love video just push the right buttons. :shame:
    cheers

Hehe, I was always just into the music back then, too young to be influenced by babes and fashion!! ;)

So have you finished archiving all of your CDs to HD now, and roughly how manys megs of HD space does an album in flac format take up?

i still have a box of cd's which i hardly ever listen to which are still to be converted i've no idea how many i've ripped or how much space they all take up but i've got about 50gb left on one drive and 100 ish on the other - each album is about 300mb.
    tom,
there is a free programme called EAC which can be used to rip cd's directly to flac files all named / formatted at you want via the gracenote / cddb. there are various help sites for both eac and flac which tell you the exact settings you need.
    cheers

Thanks for that. Just downloaded Lame & EAC started working on them and then realised I already had Roxio which does the same. Easy peasy
