The words "remake" or "franchise reboot" are the ones I dread most coming out of Hollywood these days. I rare cases (Batman or Doctor Who) they can work, but it needs someone who loves the original subject matter to make it worthwhile.

I tend to avoid most of these now, out of habit and some probably misplaced respect for the originals....

In a weird coincidence I saw the film this evening (my friends choice). I haven't seen the original, so as a new experience I would give it a generous 5.5 out of 10.

Looking forward to seeing the original though.

War of the Worlds was redone very well, IMO.

    Hi corruption

When you see the original and I am shocked you haven't seen it. It used to be a regular movie shown late at night on the beeb. Or if they did a sci-fi season. I think you will drop your marks a bit. You should be able to get it on DVD for about £10 or less.

    Hi Mike.

Yes I agree, the Tom Cruise version was very good. However why not make it as it was written and set it in Victorian England as it was imagined.

    Regards D Louth 77 :)

Aaaaargggh. Why do they need to do this all the time? The original is a classic film, the last thing it needs is a remake. I shall wait until this gets onto the TV and then throw things at the screen in disgust. Light soft things as I've just bought a new TV.

    Tony.

I guess the Holywood ideas chest must be empty. And for quite a while to.

I watched this movie only because Keanu Reeves played in it. Still i find it rather weak.

The movie wasn't as good as the original - it wasn't too bad either, except for the stuff (for want of a better word....) used to bring things up to date. That was sooooo bad.
