Has anyone noticed the news today...? It looks as though there could well be yet another war in the offing and guess what...? It's over oil.

And it's not just the oil, I believe the Falklands Islands also form the basis of Britains claim for a slice of the Antarctic....for when the Antarctic treaty expires.

Who would have known that an uninhabited island landed on in 18-something by Britain and with not an eye batted by Argentina at the time, would be fought over 150 years later.

Thing is though, how far back should you go to reclaim lands? Argentina itself was stolen and looted from the indigenous population by Spain only a few hundred years before Britain claimed the Falklands. Unfortunately they were all but wiped out so can have no say now.

Regarding the state of the country in '82, it certainly shouldn't have been a factor in defending the Falklands back then as the Argentinean President was a fascist dictator known for killing political opponents and intellectuals in the manner of Stalin. Invading the Falklands was a last ditch attempt by him to deflect attention from his collapsing economy and unpopular reign.

No country would allow a dictator like that to invade their claimed territories at any time or place.

When they were re-claimed by Britain, the people of Argentina rose up and toppled him.

Yes; the Falkands invasion was in large part a proxy to divert popular attention in Argentina from some awfully brutal goings-on.

Anyway, it's a remote, empty, rugged and rather beautiful place...

As long as we have a big bomb, the Falklands belong to us. Oil is oil and that is reason enough.

    Regards
