The Townshend has arrived, took a day off of work and went and got it. Left the bloody lid behing so will have to meet up again on Saturday. Pants.

This is the one. Picture is from where I got it from, I have no digital camera sadly.
It took some fettling, bloody nightmare to get my cart attached to the arm with that big hook at the front. Then the trough kept catching, and then the damn thing wasn't running at a stable speed, so much tinkering had to be done. But the results are fantastic. To put it politely it piddles all over my P3. Even with the K9 it came with it had more space and separation, but with my Ort on it's tons better. It's got that thwack thing the P3 struggles to do, the Stone Roses never sounded so great, David Oistrakh never sounded so real. I was worried about the so called digital sound of Townshend turntables but this one sounds resolutely analogue, but like a window has been lifted on the sound. Am rather impressed one could say :D

OK somebody's gotta ask it, is that a lump of rock under it? And if so which strata sounds best?

Glad you like it, nice when a gamble/educated guess/hunch pays off

It was a lump of railway sleeper. The deck is designed not to need too much isolation, so I'm going to take it easy on that front to start with. It's got rather dinky spongy feet which get squashed tablewards.

Indeed the ML's are definitely singing. A visit from Isaac helped out, and I've managed to get them far enough away from the wall w/o Mrs Summit having a fit of the dickies.

How are you doing with that tt of yours?

Sadly Menuhin just doesn't do it for me. Was listening to a CD with him playing the Saint Saens Havanaise and whilst the musical intent was there, it was technically so cumbersome. Oistrakh, Heifitz and Rabin are the three that excite me most. Vengerov of the latest generation seems to have the flair too. There are too many copy cat violinists around.

    I know, I know... :D
Do you have LPs of Heifetz? The 180g reissues are great!
...and don't forget Ruggero Ricci playing the carmen fantasy.

Ruggerio Ricci is great. We musn't forget Pierre Amoyal and Lydia Mordkovitch for keeping the passionate Russian tradition going
