very few manufactures are not producing single ended pre-amps or s.s power amps, i always liked s.s single ended pre's and proper class A power amps, having had the pleasure to share the latest amongts friends on this new range i think that i have fallen in love with hi-fi again, i still have to define the difference betwin xlr's and rca's,
nando. sorry message i sent to them, was this.

Sounds horribly inefficient to me - perhaps I'll Pass.

    Hi Nando,

What about Pass Labs. They make single ended solid state amps.

I can't think of any benefits for a single ended SS amp but quite a few negatives. I think this is one area where we should accept that we have had some progress.

Rob how would you define 'single ended' solid state' a design with no feedback?

Nelson Pass' FirstWatt amps are a great listen. Just give 'em some nice sensitive speakers to work with and they will astound you. I had the opportunity of listening to a FirstWatt 4 like this one:

    http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/firstwatt6/f4.html

Deceptively simple and genial. I don't consider Nelson Pass as someone conservative, but someone with the zest to try things out and investigate. Why should this technology have been outdated? By what? Why not single-ended sand amps?

I personally look at 'em as a nice alternative or complement to single-ended tube fans, as they match well with horns and the like.

    Regards,

I agree I am waiting to hear the J2, and have been listening to an Audio projekte CA10, which is a German made 10 watt solid state amp, absolutely superb, and incredibly 'cheap'.
Running it directly from my macbook, using a Weiss INT202 firewire interface ,which has it's own remote controlled attenuator,Amarra software on te mac it is absolutely super.

i am curently using a pure class a pre-amp,triode 14 tubes, based on zeroglobal feedback, with a pasive fully balanced volume control, rare earth, mu metal psu, great pre-amp i must say, no i do not have yet a single end s.s. power to try it with, only a set of nu-vista 300's power,

    Hi Keith,

I'm taking it to mean a solid state amplifier using just one output device, ie not push-pull.

Not really an issue in a pre amp but it would be in a power amplifier.

    Hi,

What's this pre amp? It's not the MF Primo is it? Why do you need a singlr ended solid state?

Yes, Rob you're right. SE does stand for Special edition but it is also supposed to be single ended, as is the normal A21a or so I believe. anyway the OP is on about pre/power sets anyway. Masterclass ?
