I haven't watched the Queen's Christmas broadcast for years but my wife's family were over from Germany this year so we all watched it.

I actually enjoyed it. Bless.

But, if anyone else watched it, did she seem worried to you? And did her message of tolerance by and for all faiths seem to be said more in hope than belief?

During the Queen's broadcast I was listening to the Smith's Queen Is Dead. I then followed that up by God Save The Queen.

I have nothing against the poor sods, they were born into it, I have nothing against the monarchy its good for tourism, I have nothing against the queens speech some people like it. I just don't think its that relevent in my life anymore. I will be in my 40's and the queen will still be making her speaches in her wheel chair and portable life support machine.

At leas the queen saves our money by buying Tesco Value Corn flakes and driving around in a P Reg Rover 820 old Philip bought off ebay.

We saw some of it on French TV, and yes she did look worried. But then doesn't she always? I don't recall ever seeing HM exhilarated. And at least she seemed to believe there is hope.

She is merely an actor reading lines, the situation in the world will not alter for at least 10 years, perhaps double, all thanks to Uncle Sam's govt.
Its ok for them, they get chauffered in bombo proof limos, free holidays by rich friends.
we have to live in crime infested areas with politicians who are in protected ivory towers, doing very little.
Just pure rhetoric, but yes, agree with amazing trade spot on fella!!

Of course she has scriptwriters but, unlike the 'Queen's Speech' at the beginning of parliamentary sessions, the Christmas broadcast is not written by the Government.

To quote from a passage in The Scotsman:

Planning starts early with the Queen's choice of a theme which she wishes to address. Changes sometimes have to be made later if national or world events take a significance detour ...

Each programme carefully reflects current issues and concerns, and shares the Queen's thoughts on what Christmas means to her, usually with a strong religious reference.

Over the years, the Christmas messages have acted as a chronicle of global, national and personal events which have touched the Queen.

It is one of the rare occasions when she does not speak on Government advice and is able to voice her own views.

Ian, I'll refrain from commenting on your Uncle Sam stuff. I'm in enough trouble already. :D
