Hi
What three cartridges would you audition in the £1000 REGION to be used in an Naim Aro

Regards

the only cart that i've actally heard is a Roksan Shiraz in a Roksan Artemiz arm. dunno how the shiraz would perform in another arm though. the cantilever is slightly more protected than some others.

I'm certainly happy with mine.

worth considering, or ruling out?

basically, you have a choice between

japs
america/canada
brits
australia
europe

these to me are at the forfront of engineering design.

other countries can put together, but aren't quite upto scratch on design imo. could be wrong.

so classify them this way, but they are still all different and equally good, its what you like....

17D2 and pocket the difference. I swear this cart was developed for an Aro.

Koi,

I don't know what the rest of your system is but I'd second Gary's recommendation but use the remaining money to buy a Dynavector p75 phono-stage to partner it - a really good combination for ~£1000 imo.

Alternatively the Dynavector XX2 is superb for ~£1000 and works well in an Aro.

Cheers

Jason

I agree with Anex. Just bought a Dorian myself and it is a bit of a bargain IMO.

I've now had it in 2 deck/arm combos, first LP12/Akito and more recently Orbe/tecnoarm and the cart is very detailed and neutral and seems to reflect the deck/arm it is on.

They are close - very close and is probably down to you whether the £300 is worth the extra cost.

As far as I am aware the Dorian is the first cart that Lyra don't make by hand and is actually made by a sub-contractor (I think) - but still checked in-house. Therefore you could argue that the Argo is the cheapest TRUE Lyra.

However I certainly couldn't justify the extra money. The Helikon, IMO, is a truly superb cart and if you can afford the Argo you could probably save the extra and think about this cart as well - you see it never stops.

The Dorian is getting better and better - I only have about 50 hours on it at the moment but can safely say I'm glad I bought it.

It is very well made, a doddle to install and makes great music. I spent a lot of time looking at the Dynavector carts but decided on the Dorian in the end - personal taste and all that. The Dynavectors are also very good carts.

imo the only thing the 17d2 has on the Lyra is lower surface noise. Still like the dyna but its not in the same league
